One of these temples, Longshan, is located in Wanhua, the city’s oldest neighborhood. This is where you come to find good fortune, good health, and spiritual advice of all sorts. Don’t worry about getting around the city; the Taipei Rapid Transit System, or MRT, will take you just about anywhere you need to go. Hop on it to pay a visit to the National Palace Museum, where you’ll find a giant collection of Chinese art and artifacts. There’s over half a million pieces related to ancient Chinese royalty here, and you can spend days exploring them all. To plan out your next move, make your way to Taipei 101. This is one of the world’s tallest buildings, and you can soar to the top for a breathtaking view of the city and pick out the next place you’ll visit. Do you see Elephant Mountain? It’s not far from the downtown area, and it’s a short climb to the top for another look at Taipei. Keep up with the nature theme and make your stop the Taipei Zoo, where you’ll meet the largest menagerie of animals in Asia. Cap off a day of Taipei sightseeing and adventure at Shilin Night Market, where you can join the locals in finding that next great meal or landing a spectacular bargain. What will you do in Taipei? More about Taipei: https://youtu.be/0MCWOmnF8k8 https://youtu.be/lr9EviyRcGo Taipei, Taiwan is a super modern city with a deep-rooted culture that is becoming more and more popular as a gateway to East Asia and Southeast Asia. It’s new express MRT service from Taoyuan International Airport, a 36 minute ride, will make it even more convenient for travellers, especially those on a short layover. This short but important list of essential things you should know will help keep you on track with a smooth stay. Although taxis are plentiful and relatively inexpensive compared with other big cities in East Asia the MRT is one of the best ways to get to most of the main sites and business centers of Taipei City. The Nangang Exhibition Center where many conventions and shows are held is accessible by the blue and brown MRT lines. Neihou, where many tech industry businesses have their head office is also on the brown line, Xihu is one of the most convenient stops for quick and easy access. Taipei 101 for the last 3.5 years has had it’s own MRT stop on the red line. This is where you’ll also find The International Convention Center next to the Taipei 101 Shopping Mall. It’s also in close proximity to Taipei City Hall and is apart of the Xinyi Shopping District, where you’ll find one of the largest selections of luxury goods stores in East Asia. If you want to get more of a local perspective pick up an Easycard available at most MRT stations and register it online with Ubike, https://taipei.youbike.com.tw/en/index.php so you can have access to the city bikes that have stations across Taipei City and New Taipei City. Simply swipe your card next to the bike you want to rent and you’re ready to go. You can drop the bike off at any Ubike station. They’re almost always located near an MRT station. In the video I mention briefly that the Taiwanese people are very friendly and helpful. It’s true! If you ever appear to be lost or confused while looking at a map you will in most cases immediately attract the attention of a local who will be pleased to help you find your way. That’s wny I said “get lost”, literally you can get lost while exploring this amazing city with it’s maze of alleyways, quiet cafes, food stalls and shops and not worry that you won’t have help getting back to your hotel. Taipei and the rest of Taiwan is an extremely safe place to travel. There is literally no or very rare violent crime against tourists. Personal ownership of guns is banned. There has been reports of pick pocketing and petty theft, particularly in night markets and crowded places, but I think this is even rare now. Enjoy your stay in Taipei and please feel free to leave any comments or questions. You can also message me on the Far East Adventure Travel Facebook page! http://www.mydestination.com/taipei/things-to-do/1168163/taipei-arena-h-sep No matter what kind of sport you like, there's a way to play for everyone at the Taipei Arena. The outer wall of the arena is a glass boundary, offering a vision into the city beyond. This transparency seems to visually integrate the arena into the city its situated in and vice-versa, offering visitors to the arena a somehow magnified experience. The venue itself is open twenty-four hours a day, except for the ice rink which is only open from 9AM until 9PM. The Taipei Arena is comprised of a myriad of smaller venues, among these a showroom, conference rooms, restaurants, a VIP lounge, stores and snack vendors. For public use, the Taipei Arena also houses squash courts, a gym and two dance studios. All of which are available to be rented out by the public. The Maokong Gondola (perhaps better known as a cable car) is a Taipei "must do". This beautiful journey will take you from the Taipei Zoo station to the enchanted village of Maokong, with several scenic stops along the way. Once you have purchased your ticket, you are free to get off and on at each of the stops. The fares for each passenger's journey are based on the number of stations traveled and concessional fares are available to the disabled and seniors aged over 65 years of age. Fares can be paid by purchasing tickets at the Maokong Gondola station, or by swiping the Taipei Metro EasyCard. With each adult ticket purchased, two children are able to travel free and discounts are available for those travelling in groups. Take note that is may be cheapest to purchase the one-day Taipei pass, which allows you unlimited bus and MRT rides, as well as three gondola rides per card - at just $250NTD. In 2010, thirty of the Maokong Gondola cabins were retrofitted with 48mm thick glass bottoms, to become the premium "crystal cabins". Also lovingly labelled the "Eyes of Maokong Gondola", these cabins have a separate queue and ticket price. The cabins can hold up to five guests, and allow those inside to peer through the glass bottom cars onto the jungle beneath. Find out more: http://myde.st/22z9

For this video I wanted to highlight the people, the culture and the beauty of Taipei, the amazing capital city of Taiwan. Showcasing the sights of a normal day in the life. From watching the city wake up to visiting its morning fresh markets and exploring the cities historical sites, to finishing the night at a beautiful temple and eating delicious street food at a night market. These are the streets the faces and the food you will see in A Day in Taipei. Over 4000 photos were imported edited in photoshop, exported, re-imported into fcpx and edited again into time lapses and hyper lapses. This was my first time attempting this style and I learned a lot. Let me know if you like this video and let me know about your visit to Taipei! http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Driving from south Taiwan to Taitung on the East Coast involved crossing through mountain ranges on some wonderful highways and past different aboriginal villages. Many of the tribes decorate entrance to their villages which always meant a stop to photograph the decorations. It was not the nicest of days thanks to a cold front over Japan but we made the most of it. There were fishing villages, black sand beaches and even the local 7-11 Stores along the road are a marvel; immaculately clean, spotless toilets, a variety of hot and cold foods, pleasant and helpful staff. Next stop was the Museum of National Prehistory...
